Friends of Pathways Newest Program!
Friends of Pathways has expanded its partnership with Jackson Hole Community Pathways in the creation of a new Pathways Stewardship & Ambassador Program. This program actively addresses government funding reductions and ensures sustainable pathways maintenance, while building awareness of safety rules and regulations and seeking to minimize environmental impacts by being primarily pedal powered. The Stewardship program also helps mitigate user impacts, maintain pathways' amenities (information kiosks, signage, parks, etc.), and addresses safety issues on the pathways throughout Jackson Hole.
Goals for Summer 2009
In this first season of the program, Friends of Pathways Stewardship Director, Mike Welch, and Jackson Hole Community Pathways Coordinator, Brian Schilling, have created ambitious goals responding to the community's demand for recognition of this incredible asset, and its impact on our daily lives.
• Enhanced maintenance and safety presence on the pathways system with Pathways Ambassadors and Volunteer Groups.
• Timely response to community requests and input with regard to maintenance, safety rules and regulations, and education.
• Recruiting and coordinating volunteers to ensure proper stewardship of pathways.
What we have accomplished in the first two months
• Over 400 hours of additional maintenance and patrol by Friends of Pathways staff and intern.
• Implementation of daily, bicycle-mounted pathway maintenance and safety patrols.
• Coordinated more than 450 hours of volunteer work with over 150 volunteers ranging in age from 5yrs to 65yrs on pathways and trails.
• Initiation of a comprehensive Signage Program, including temporary signage at pathway work areas and new trail locations.
• Assisting the Jackson Hole Community Pathways program in actively identifying and coordinating a timely resolution of maintenance issues.
