Friends of Pathways is expanding its partnership with the Jackson Hole Community Pathways to create and administer a new Pathways Stewardship & Ambassador program to address government funding reductions and to ensure pathways are better maintained and sustainable and their users are educated and safe.
The Pathways Stewardship and Ambassador Program will actively address the community need for a sustainable maintenance system for the Town/County Pathways. The Stewardship program will also help mitigate user impacts, maintain pathway amenities (ie. information kiosks, signs, mutt mitt stations), and address safety issues on the pathways throughout Jackson Hole.
FOP's Stewardship Director, and minimum of one Ambassador, will together work on pathway maintenance and patrol a combined 50 hours per week with an emphasis on providing service during the most popular times of use (morning/evening commutes). The Stewardship Director will also be responsible for coordinating volunteer groups on the pathway during the day. These volunteer groups will work on a range of activities including maintenance, landscaping, trash removal and beautification.
The Ambassador and Stewardship program will be human powered as much as practical, creating a much smaller carbon footprint, reducing costs and increasing efficiency. The Ambassadors will ride FOP and JH Pathways issued bicycles equipped with necessary tools and equipment and wear uniforms during working hours to be easily identified.
Pathways Stewardship and Ambassador duties will include but are not limited to the following:
• Routine pathway maintenance; sweeping debris, picking up trash, emptying garbage containers and trimming grass surrounding community benches
• Maintain and update kiosks and signage
• Educating on pathways rules and regulations
• Assist users with directions, questions, safety information
• Monitor pathway use; monthly user counts and user feedback
• Provide lights, bike bells when necessary
• Help with pet issues: encouraging people to clean up after their pets, use leashes in designated areas, and help maintain mutt-mitt stations
• Assist with minor first aid in emergency situations
